This plasma is then contained by a powerful magnetic field until the weapon is discharged, at which point it is projected through a linear magnetic accelerator, emitting a burst of superheated matter that resembles a solar flare in both appearance and temperature. Upon impact, it releases immense energy—akin to a miniature sun—obliterating the target through searing heat and explosive force in a devastating blast.

Officers favor plasma pistols for their ability to neutralize heavily armored enemies in a compact, hand-held configuration. Moreover, their rarity establishes plasma pistols as status symbols, with possession signifying the bearer's importance. Among Space Marines, Assault Squads may wield plasma pistols, enhancing their effectiveness as tank hunters.
